Our Ranking Methodology

Independent UK Amazon bestseller ranking history based on dated visual snapshots. We independently record bestseller positions to understand how the rankings observed over time change.

How we capture rankings

We manually observe Amazon.co.uk bestseller category pages and save dated visual snapshots. We do not use automated web scraping to collect Amazon ranking positions. Each published Top 5 entry is checked against the corresponding screenshot before its recorded rank, product description and observation date are entered into our historical records.

Spreadsheets, software and AI-assisted tools can support data organisation, calculations, content preparation and publication. The ranking evidence itself comes from manually captured and reviewed visual snapshots.

How historical rankings are calculated

  • Recorded position: A product’s observed position (#1 to #5) in an identified category on a specific snapshot date.
  • Weeks in the Top 5: The number of distinct calendar weeks in which the product appeared in a saved Top 5 observation.
  • Weeks at #1: The number of distinct calendar weeks in which the product was recorded in first position.
  • Movement: An observed change in position between consecutive saved category snapshots. An initial snapshot has no previous position against which to compare.
  • New entries and re-entries: A product not present in the previous Top 5 may be marked as new or returning only after checking its recorded history.

What the data does and does not show

The ranking dates are observations, not continuous monitoring. A product appearing at #1 in four successive weekly snapshots is recorded as first in four observed weeks; we cannot conclude that it held the position every day between captures. Bestseller positions do not establish actual sales volumes, market share, independent product-test results or the reason a ranking changed.

Current bestseller positions may differ from our most recent saved snapshot. Product models, variants and category descriptions can change, so readers should confirm current listing details and the manufacturer’s specifications before buying.
